Over the weekend (Friday 12th - Sunday 14th) Sydney Koryukan hosted our third Kan-geiko at the Guildford Dojo. This year Sensei Bob King of NSW Hombu Dojo (Newcastle) lead our group through Kata Happoren and various applications and technical theories during our Saturday sessions.

We also invited Sensei Wolfgang Vogel of Seaford Koryukan (Victoria) to lead us through various Bojutsu exercises including Koryu no Kon and our Kumi-Bo drill on Friday and Sunday sessions.

Kan-geiko has been a great event again this year and I would like to thank everyone that attended for making so.

We have posted photos from the weekend training and dinner on our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151412802430834.1073741833.89621180833&type=1 ;

During May and June we have trialled Seniors Training Sesions on a monthly basis - Saturday afternoons. Our first two sessions have been very successful and a lot of fun as well as hard work.

We are greatly looking forward to continuing this new tradition for our Senior grade students and guest instructors. With the Kan-geiko (Winter Training) being held in July, the next Seniors Training Session will be Saturday 10th August at 2:00pm. Our focus in August will be negotiating the "Clinch" and promisses to be a lot of fun.

As noted guests are welcome to attend. Please do call prior and advise your interest and attendance.

All future sessions are now in the Calendar - see you on the mats!

We had a big turn out and a great day on Saturday, with everyone working very hard to dsiplay high quality technique. Sensei was very impressed at the level of maturity shown by many students, and the perseverance through the long day.

As ususal our dojo competions, Sparring, Grappling and Judo were full of action and it was certainly great to see the lessons imparted to studnts on display in their techniques. Well done to all cempetitors for your strong spirit and impressive sportsmanship.

Congratulations to all students on a successful grading, and a big thank you to the parents and friends who were there to support them.

We have just finished what has been a great Kan-geiko this year, with our guest Sensei Wolfgang Vogel. This year our focus was Grappling and Kobudo.

Sensei Wolfgang took the group through Peichin Kumi-Bo and Peichin Kumi-Sai working a number of composites along the way. We also managed to practice Koryu no Sai to round out the Kobudo training.

Grapling sessions were great fun on Saturday tweaking a number of techniques to in rease our depth of understanding.

It was great to have so many visitors from other Dojo attend the sesions this year and make new friends, we are looking forward to future events together already.

I would like to thank everyone for their very positive feedback and sharing the experiences of a great weekend.

This month we have been fortunate to be hosting Dinah Kretschmer 2nd Dan from KU in Germany! Dinah is staying in Australia for an extended holiday and training at the Sydney Koryukan for the next two weeks.

Dinah will bring a wealth of knowledge, particularly in Bojustu, to the Dojo and it will be great working with her during her stay!

Gasshuku 2012

Posted by Sensei on April 23, 2012 at 3:00 AM Comments comments (0)

This year the International Gsshuku was held at Myuna Bay Sports and Recreation Centre, and was the greatest camp we have had to date. It was an excellent experience to work with so many instructors and peers from around the world, making new friends and gaining invaluable insights to Koryu Uchinadi.

Hanshi as usual was on fire all five days, and continued to amaze everyone with his depth and knowledge of technique.

This NSW KU has been very successful, acquiring new skills to take back to the respective Dojo, but also with the following grading results:

Sensei Bob King 5th Dan

Sensei Darren Viemero 3rd Dan

Daniel Giovannini 2nd Dan

David Beattie 1st Dan

Steve Moore 1st Dan

Special thanks to all the senior instructors of Koryu Uchinadi for all the assistance during Gasshuku - Osu.

We have uploaded a number of pictures from the five days of training, so stop by for a look.
